The Girl Effect: Unleash the potential of 600 million girls around the world

“The Girl Effect, n. The unique potential of 600 million adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves and the world.” (www.girleffect.org)

The Girl Effect is an initiative by the Nike Foundation. The idea is to empower girls, who otherwise would expect to live a life in poverty, by giving them the opportunity to go to school, to start their own small businesses and become independent and well respected within their communities. They in turn can educate their communities and so slowly the living conditions of all girls improve.
