Sokha is gazing apathetically into space. Her sister Rena puts an arm around her, encourages her to talk about what happened to her. Sokha has been kidnapped and forced to work in a brothel, until her sister, an incredibly brave girl, manages to save her. The girls tell Sokha’s story to Cambodian politician Mu Sochua, a human rights activist. “The goal,” says Mu Sochua “is to turn them into survivors.”

Die Fremde – Honour Killings

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2011, the United Nations in cooperation with the Bozar, the Goethe-Institute and other partners is organising a screening of “Die Fremde” (When we leave), a film by a young German director called Feo Aladag addressing domestic violence and so called honour killings.
